Chicagokim art

an outsider artist looking in

Method

For some reason, most of my composition and conceptualizing occurs while I am driving.  I have the proverbial “black book” that holds my rantings and musings artistically. It is usually filled at red lights here and there…

Basically, before I begin painting, my heart starts palpitating if I have not rough drafted beforehand.  My foremost thought when I began was that I had no business picking up a brush, roller or anything for that matter…

The main reason I use a lot of “stuff” (Chinese newspaper, German magazine clippings, felt, wood, paste, plaster, moss (thanks Kim D.), etc…) in my art is because I was scared of the empty canvas so I added lots of stuff to distract the viewer into thinking I had a clue. It seems that all of my artistic and accidental Tom Foolery has worked out for the best.

“I am just so proud of you.”

Hego Hego - Artist-Westphalia, Germany:

In Cologne I visited a Robert Rauschenberg and a Jasper Jones exhibition some years ago. I have also seen some of Jackson Pollock's artworks and I can see, smell, and breathe the same "aura" in your artworks! I can only ask you to keep on painting and I predict a great career for you.

Ladislau Weiss - One of Germany's most respected & revered artists,         Sttugart, Germany - http://www.ladislaus-weiss.de/

“Your creativity is solely noble and beautiful because you cannot find anything on the outside that matches what you have found inside of you.  My hands have been tired and my eyes a bit weary, but seeing your insights gives me a new spark for my own art. Please don’t stop. ”

"The new artwork of Chicago Kim are compositionally well balanced and thought through. The Creation Force is continuously and homogenuous. The artwork "This time things will be different" signalizes a visual variation. The artwork "Bigger Integrity" signals the house as a home for all melancholic humans. The metaphysical association is timeless.

"Your Oh, my God! I'm a Writer!!" painting you sent expresses my bemusement at thinking I am a writer, and I keep it where I can see it every day when I sit down to try to write."

Monique Lucienne Schmidt - Artist, Paris, France

j´aime beaucoup... ce rouge qui tourne au vio let et s´unit au noir et blanc. Belle composition: J´y découvre même un visage!(dans la partie droite un visage blanc, caché à moitié par un trait noir).

There Is Something She Is Not Saying" is incredible! It is a really strong piece and may be your most effective communication out of the works I have seen. Really great work.”

Robert Catapano- Artist- Fine Art America - Boynton Beach, USA:

“I LOVE YOUR WORK!!!! Your art is where art should be. I will return to look often.”

Rosemary Jacobsohn- Professional Artist-New York, NY:

“You are exactly what the world of art needs. Strong woman, incredible art, daring movement in your work. ..What you do can’t be taught, unless you are teaching.”

Max Cantrell- Artist- Palma, Spain:

Ton Visage Me Manques" is a very strong painting…quite mature for someone who’s been painting for such a short time. I am truly impressed by the almost masculine feel to your work, though you are female.  Your work has such power.  You are someone to watch.  Though I am a successful artist in Spain, with more exhibitions than I can handle, I find that I have learned from you, a new artist. Congrats and thank you.”

Stefan Fiedorowicz-Art Critic – Vienna, Austria

“Your body of work after only 1 year of painting is uncanny.  Your composition, your bravery, your courage even…Now that is just so cool.”
